Well, this is one of the questions that I have been trying to find an answer to for the past few months. By the way, what is a startup? So I went onto the internet to search for its meaning and this is what I found.
I am not going to lie to you, but this definition actually confused me quite a bit. So, what I have basically gathered from this definition is that a start-up in the literal sense is when a regular person or a group of people have an idea that they think is fantastic and the people will love it. They then create a business model around that idea. They are basically "starting up" on their entrepreneurial journey.
(hold for applause)
Now you might think that this sounds so easy so then why doesn't everyone just start a startup. Something that people do not understand is the process of getting that million-dollar or revolutionary idea. It is basically a process of elimination in my opinion. It begins with an idea in your mind which you think is "different". Then, what I usually do and would suggest you do as well is to go onto the internet and search if there are any companies with the same or similar business idea, if not, great for you, you are in a league of your own. But if there are other competitors, then if you think that you can do a better or a more cost-efficient job than them then I believe that you should think of moving forward with that idea and if not, then just scarp it for the time being. I would still suggest you write down that idea somewhere you can get access to easily. I usually document all my ideas on my laptop or phone so that if I ever want to come back to that idea and read about what was I missing or why I scrapped it I would have it available to me. Mind you, finding an idea is not as easy as I make it look. The process of brainstorming for a great business idea is quite hard in itself and its just beginning of setting up a start-up. People spend years just trying to find a good idea or an idea worth beginning a start-up.
Now, if somehow you have reached this stage where you have an idea which is one or maybe all of the above characteristics then I first want to say congratulations. Now, what should you do? Now can you begin a start-up? Are you the next billionaire entrepreneur? You might become one day but today might not be that day for you because this is just the beginning of your journey. Now that you have an idea you think is unique then what I usually do is write down any problems that you could encounter in this business model. Then try finding efficient and appropriate solutions for them and this my friend is probably more difficult than any other steps because there will always be problems or ways to improve your product or service, as everything according to me is imperfect in their own ways that is what makes them unique.
My friends this is where I leave you as in my brief experience of trying to be an entrepreneur I have just reached this point where I am contemplating the effectiveness of various ideas which I think might be 'revolutionary'. Once, I am able to cross this junction I would be back with you all to share with you more on this topic.
